Islamabad, Pakistan – Punjab government has rolled out major support for wheat farmers, announcing free gunny bags worth Rs6 billion and streamlined procurement processes to ease their burdens amid economic pressures.
In a recent X post, Punjab Information Minister Azma Bokhari highlighted these measures, originally credited to Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif.
The province will provide registered farmers with 10 free bags per acre from purchase centers. Procurement kicks off immediately at Rs3,500 per maund, with mandatory payments within 72 hours—crucial for cash-strapped growers facing rising input costs.
Farmer Card holders get priority in purchases. Strategic management committees at provincial and divisional levels will monitor operations for transparency.

The briefing also touted successes: 88% farmer trust in CM’s projects, launch of “Work with Punjab Government” for agri graduates’ internships, record Rs100 billion loans via Farmer Cards with 99% recovery, and 900,000 registrations. Green Tractor Scheme delivered 20,000 of 30,000 units, spurring local manufacturing like harvesters in Daska.

Payments within 72 hours at Rs3,500 per maund: Punjab ensures farmers get quick cash flow.

These steps align with Pakistan’s agri economy needs, stabilizing food prices and supporting rural incomes key to national GDP.
