New digital platform aims to streamline government services and boost economic growth through technology.

Key Takeaways:

i) Pakistan has launched the Centralised Digital Repository (CEDAR) to integrate government data and services.

ii) The platform is expected to enhance efficiency, transparency, and citizen access to public services.

iii) CEDAR is a key component of Pakistan’s broader strategy to embrace digitalization for economic development.

Lahore, Pakistan – Pakistan has officially launched its Centralised Digital Repository (CEDAR), a significant step towards establishing a comprehensive digital ecosystem within the country. The initiative, unveiled at a ceremony in Islamabad, aims to consolidate government data and services onto a unified platform, promising to revolutionize how citizens and businesses interact with state institutions.

Speaking at the launch event, Federal Minister for Technology and Digital Transformation, Mr. Ahsan Iqbal, emphasized the transformative potential of CEDAR. “This platform represents a paradigm shift in our governance model,” he stated. “By harnessing the power of digital technology, we are aiming to create a more efficient, transparent, and citizen-centric system. CEDAR will not only streamline bureaucratic processes but also pave the way for innovation and economic growth.”

The CEDAR platform is designed to integrate various government departments and agencies, allowing for seamless data sharing and interoperability. This integration is expected to eliminate redundancies, reduce paperwork, and expedite service delivery. Citizens will potentially benefit from online access to a wide range of services, including applications for official documents, payment of utilities, and access to information, all through a single digital portal.

Furthermore, the government believes that CEDAR will play a crucial role in fostering economic development. By creating a more transparent and efficient business environment, the platform is expected to attract greater investment and facilitate trade. Access to reliable and integrated data will also enable better policymaking and resource allocation.

The development of CEDAR is part of Pakistan’s broader “Digital Pakistan” initiative, which seeks to leverage technology to improve governance, enhance public services, and drive economic growth. The government has been actively promoting digitalization across various sectors, including finance, education, and healthcare.

While the launch of CEDAR is a significant milestone, experts note that its success will depend on effective implementation and widespread adoption across government departments and by citizens. Ensuring data security and privacy will also be critical. The government has assured that robust measures are in place to safeguard sensitive information.

The rollout of CEDAR will occur in phases, with more services and features being added to the platform over time. The government has expressed its commitment to working closely with all stakeholders to ensure the successful realization of its digital vision.
